Films can be submitted to our International Film Competition in various categories.

The productions submitted in the categories shown here are reviewed by a selection panel and the best ones are nominated. Our main jury chooses the winning films.

This award goes to a film that promotes sustainable interaction with our environment in a memorable and outstanding way, and best uses all filmic means to present ecological relationships in a way that is well-informed and easy to understand.

This award goes to a film about nature and wildlife themes which, through its narrative style, camerawork and score, constitutes a complete filmic work of art that inspires viewers and raises awareness of nature and/or wildlife.

This award goes to a film that helps to protect biodiversity by highlighting it in the most impressive way, inspiring viewers and making any scientific connections easy to understand.

With this award, NaturVision would like to honour films that tell us courageous and powerful stories. Stories that also create an arc of suspense beyond the film and into our everyday world, giving us a new perspective on topics that are close to NaturVision's heart: From the responsible treatment of nature and animals, resources and the relationship between humans and animals to portraits of people who are breaking new ground.

This award goes to a production whose camerawork contributes most effectively to the artistic and aesthetic quality of the film. The judges especially look out for a recognisably distinctive hallmark of the camera person.

Unfortunately, there is no prize money available so far. We would be happy about a donation.

This award goes to the film whose specially composed and produced score supports the dramatic and emotional arrangement of the film in the best possible way. Among other things, the judges will be looking for a distinctive artistic expression that goes beyond obvious clichés.

This award is aimed at students/trainees in media professions, or graduates/career-changers during their first two productions. The judges will be looking for a coherent overall concept, which already contains distinctive stylistic elements.

A jury of youngsters select their favourite film. It is not possible to apply for this competition category; the youth jury selects its winners on its own. Amongst the jury are youngsters from the Jugendgemeinderat Ludwigsburg, the Jugendinitiative der Nachhaltigkeitsstrategie Baden-Württemberg and the Young Explorers Program.

Secrets of the forest: Short film stories from the forest ecosystem

The forest is a diverse ecosystem for plants, animals and humans. More than half of all plants and animals on land live in forests.

According to UN reports, around 80 per cent of all animal and plant species are found in areas belonging to indigenous communities. Does this mean that indigenous communities are also the guardians of our forests, natural areas and the world's remaining biodiversity?

How have forests on all continents developed over the millennia, how has their function increased or will it change in the course of climate change?

Filmmakers from all over the world are invited to submit short films (max. length 20 min.) that inspire enthusiasm for the forest habitat and biodiversity, raise awareness of the dangers and promote a mindful approach to this habitat. The films must have been completed after 1st January 2018. Submission for the short film competition will start on 19 November 2024.
