The species-rich large-animal fauna that once existed in Europe has disappeared with modern humans – and with it biodiversity.
But domestic grazing animals can also provide the same "ecosystem engineering services". Perhaps the chance for a slightly different wilderness, but a wilderness that is good and important for biodiversity, animal welfare, climate and landscape.
