Despite being just 10 minutes long, marine biologist Jaxon Derow’s powerful directorial debut succeeds in drawing attention to a terrible, man-made environmental disaster. The Great Salt Lake (the largest salt lake in the western hemisphere) in the US state of Utah is in danger of drying up completely, as what little water there is is mainly used to grow animal feed. The lake provides a habitat for over 10 million migratory birds and countless other animal species every year.

The film shows impressive images of a severely endangered habitat in poetic beauty. The soundtrack and the narrator deserve particular mention. The young-sounding voice warns us and at the same time gives us hope. Humans can still win the battle for environmental and climate protection and thus also for the health of their own population through their own efforts.
